October 14, 2015   |   Melissa (admin)

We are loving the Gold Coast area and how accessible it’s becoming.  We have some great businesses listed with us on the Gold Coast that includes wheelchair accessible accommodation.  They’re accessible to the beautiful beaches AND verified accessible to wheelchairs.

Wheelchair Access at Burleigh Beach

Sand ramp at Burleigh Beach

Sand ramp at Burleigh Beach

A trial has begun at Burleigh for this sand ramp and beach wheelchairs. It’s being done by the Council and the Burleigh Surf Club. They’re free to use by anyone with restricted mobility. It’s a really positive initiative and it’d be great to see the trial prove that there’s a need for these types of facilities on our beaches.

Well done to all involved, the beach is a quintessential Gold Coast experience and it’s great to see this trial happening (and hopefully it will be successful, and extended).  During the trial period the ramp will be available every Saturday 9.00am to 12.00pm, until April 2017. Powered by awesome volunteers from the SLSC.

Just wondering if the sandramp is still available in February 2018. Thanks 🙂

  • I love to take my husband away for a long stay in Qld away from the cold of Wollongong.
    What his needs are
    A fully accessible bathroom.
Bedroom large enough to access by a Sara Stedy.
We have a king size bed here at home but could have two king singles.
Full wheelchair access as he can’t walk.
Would like to stay in Sunshine coast and the gold coast area. For the month of June and July.
From what I have seen it looks like it is going to be all too costly can you show some light on what this dream would cost. Please.
